Indian Wedding Photographer Auckland
Multi-day Indian weddings captured with cultural depth, from the Ganesh Pooja to the Vidai.
Indian Weddings Aren’t One Wedding. They’re Hundreds.
Indian weddings aren’t one wedding. They’re hundreds, depending on where your family is from, what you believe, and how your grandparents did it.
I’m Karan. I’ve shot Punjabi, Sikh, Gujarati, South Indian, and Indo-Fijian weddings across Auckland. I know the difference between a Pithi and a Haldi. I know when the Kanyadaan happens in a Hindu wedding versus the Anand Karaj in a Sikh one. I know that what looks like one ritual to an outsider is actually three different things depending on the family.
If your wedding is rooted in Indian tradition, you need someone who’ll learn YOUR family’s version, not just shoot what they expect to see. That’s how we work.
Every Function. Every Region. Every Ritual.
Indian weddings vary across regions, religions, and family traditions. Here’s what we cover, with the cultural awareness each function deserves.
Pre-Wedding Family Ceremonies
Roka, Sagai, Mangni, Nischayam — depending on your tradition. The first formal step where families bless the union. Intimate, ritual-heavy, deeply emotional.
Mehendi & Sangeet
Henna and music nights. Often the most photogenic functions: colours, choreographed dances, family performances, the bride’s hands resting in her mother’s lap. We embed in the energy without breaking it.
Haldi / Pithi / Mangala Snanam
The turmeric ceremony. Called Haldi in North India, Pithi in Gujarati weddings, Mangala Snanam in South Indian weddings. The colours, the laughter, the elders smearing turmeric on the couple — these are the shots that age the best.
Ganesh Pooja
The opening prayer of a Hindu wedding, invoking Lord Ganesha for an auspicious start. Quiet, ritual-focused, deeply meaningful.
Baraat
The groom’s procession. Dhol, dance, often a horse, sometimes elephants in larger celebrations. Energy at its peak. We’re embedded in the moving celebration without breaking the flow.
Wedding Ceremony
The structure varies by tradition. Anand Karaj for Sikh weddings. Saat Phere or Saptapadi for Hindu weddings (different by region). Mandap setup, agni, vows. We know the structure of each and shoot accordingly.
Vidai / Doli
The bride’s farewell. Called Vidai in many Hindu traditions, Doli in Punjabi/Sikh weddings. Emotional centerpiece of the day for many families. We’re ready before the moment starts.
Reception & Celebration
The party. The first dance, speeches, late-night dance floor, the auntie-jis still going strong at 2am.

Questions Indian Couples Ask
We’re [Punjabi/Gujarati/South Indian/Indo-Fijian]. Have you shot weddings like ours?
Likely yes. We’ve shot across most major Indian cultural traditions. If we haven’t shot your specific community before, we do the research and ask the right questions before the day.
Our wedding mixes two regional traditions. Can you handle that?
Yes. Many of our couples have blended traditions. We treat both sides with equal cultural depth, not one as primary and the other as background.
Do you know the difference between Hindu, Sikh, and regional wedding rituals?
Yes. The Saat Phere (Hindu) and the Anand Karaj (Sikh) are entirely different ceremonies. The Mandap setup varies between North and South Indian weddings. We know the differences and shoot accordingly.
We have a multi-day wedding. How do you handle continuity of coverage?
We staff for the entire wedding, not just one day. The same lead photographer is present across all functions where possible, with team rotation to keep energy sharp. Continuity of style and approach across days is built into our process.
Can you cover the Baraat with all the dancing and dhol?
Yes. We’re built for it. Baraat coverage requires moving with the procession, anticipating moments, handling dust and chaos and energy. We thrive in it.
We have a Mandap ceremony. Have you shot at our specific Mandir?
We’ve shot at BAPS Mandir, Auckland Hindu Temple, and other major Mandirs across Auckland. If we haven’t been to yours, we visit before the day.
Do you offer separate cultural sub-specialists?
Yes. For Punjabi/Sikh weddings specifically, we have a dedicated page with deeper detail on those traditions: Punjabi & Sikh Wedding Photographer Auckland. For other Indian cultural specialties, we cover them under our Indian Weddings service.
How early should we book?
Peak Indian wedding season in Auckland (October to April) books out 12 months in advance. Multi-day weddings book even earlier because of the team scope required.
